The club exists to cultivate and encourage all forms of paddle powered craft, but most members have closed cockpit kayaks. These split into sea kayaks and play/surf kayaks. What happens and when? The club runs throughout the year, but the main seasons of activity are the months when both the sea and air temperature are a little warmer and kinder. During the winter, the club runs a Thursday session (starting at 8pm) at Les Quennevais pool using short boats to acquire and practice paddle skills. Sessions are open to both adults and juniors. These pools sessions often include organised courses on kayak rolling for adults with paddle skills and games for the juniors. The last pool sessions are in March. Starting in April (after the clocks have changed) the Tuesday sessions at St. Catherine's begin. These start promptly at 6pm to enable the best use of water time before it gets too dark. These sessions rely on Club coaches running a varied program of skills based and short-distance paddle groups. Starting in 2009, we plan to use a whiteboard by the Clubhouse to ensure both paddlers (and the Club coaches) know what is on offer and who is planning to go on each session. Also starting in April, Thursday evening sessions are run from various locations around the island, depending on the wind direction and the state of the tide. These are open to "improver" paddlers that have been through one of the courses run on the Tuesday evening. Through the year, club members meet regularly each Sunday for a paddle. There is a dedicated phone number which gives details of the starting point and the "on water" time, usually 10 o'clock. Off Island The club organises several overnight or multi-day trips away from Jersey. These often include, but not restricted to, Gulf of Morbihan, southern Brittany and Lihou off Guernsey. There are also opportunities to join other club paddlers who are organising trips, often to distant locations. How much will it cost? Membership is open to both residents, overseas members and visitors. The details shown below are valid for 2010 renewals. All members will be covered by the BCU insurance.
